Most people answer that question with a mirror and a bathroom scale — two of the least reliable instruments available. The mirror is subjective and lighting-dependent. The scale can't distinguish three pounds of muscle from three pounds of fat, or tell you that you gained five pounds of lean tissue while losing two pounds of fat, netting a scale reading that looks like nothing happened at all.
This is the core problem with periodized training: you can execute a program with near-perfect discipline and still have no objective way to confirm it worked — unless you measure the right things, the right way.

Scan again at the end of the block to verify the outcome. Repeat at the next transition point.
